Tom R. FitzSimmons

Tom R. FitzSimmons, age 70, of Good Thunder, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at his home.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Good Thunder.  Visitation will be on Friday, October 15 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Dr.) and will also be Saturday from 10:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Good Thunder.

Tom was born on April 14, 1951 in Mankato to Robert and Bonnie (Caven) FitzSimmons.  He graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1969.  On June 16, 1972, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Cindy Sohre at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Good Thunder.  Tom owned and operated FitzSimmons Construction for many years.  If you were lucky enough to work on Tom’s crew, you always learned something because you were taught by the best. Including his three long-time employees, Gregg Schoneck, Todd Lange and Jeff Bammert.   He also worked on the family-owned hog farm.  Tom enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years, traveling, coffee time and his carpentry work, especially building staircases.  Tom was always singing and taught his grandchildren the silliest songs.  Most of all, he loved time spent with his family.  He was devoted to his siblings, loved time with his children and grandchildren, but most important was his wife, Cindy.

Tom is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Robert (Kelly), Christy (Joe) Fischer, Seth (Amanda), Annie (James) Stenzel, and Ethan (Kirsten Worlds); ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; twin sisters, Laureen (Dean) Sohre and Maureen (Larry) Hollerich; brothers, Pat (Marie), John (Jan), Dick “Richard” (Julie), Paul (Gina), Bill (Gretchen), and Mark “Red”; mother-in-law, Marianne Sohre; Cindy’s extended family; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert Jr.; father-in-law, Glen Sohre; brother-in-law, Marley Lange; niece, Becky Hollerich; nephew, Josh Walters; and great-nephew, Davon FitzSimmons.
