Vern W. Amundson

Vern Amundson, age 94, of Mankato, died on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.

Vern was born on September 2, 1928, in Perham, MN to Ernest and Cecelia (Esser) Amundson.  Vern served in the United States Navy from 1945-1947.  He was aboard the USS Furse when the ship participated in Operation Crossroads, which provided atomic bomb testing in the South Pacific.  On December 13, 1948, Vern was united in marriage to Ruth Felber.  He was a journeyman carpenter for Local #1464 for many years.  Vern enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and traveling with his camper.  Vern was in a bowling league for many years and was a member of American Legion Post #11. 

Vern is survived by his children, James (Ruth), Donald (Linda), George (Mary), Robert Amundson, and Shannon Blair; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; daughter-in-law, LuAnn; son-in-law, John Blair; and 4 siblings.
