Vicki Cheryl Schmidt

Vicki Schmidt, age 76, of Madison Lake, died on June 2, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at All Saints Catholic Church, Madison Lake. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Madison Lake, will take place immediately after mass. Visitation will be after the mass and burial from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at All Saints Church, with a light meal served. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to­­­­ Red Cross of Mankato or the All Saints Church Outdoor Flower Fund.

Vicki was born to Lloyd and Julia (Van Hal) Braun on April 15, 1949, in Owatonna, MN. Vicki graduated from Loyola High School in 1967 and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of LPN nursing in 1969. She celebrated her nursing degree with a backpacking trip across Europe. Vicki was united in marriage to Gary L. Schmidt on March 19, 1971, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. They were blessed with two sons, Chad and Matthew.

Vicki worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato for 10 years and then worked many years doing home health care and daycare. She enjoyed watching her sons’ school activities and motor sports, sailing, curling, traveling throughout the country by van and motorcycle, and organizing events. She volunteered with her church, school, and community. Vicki loved flowers, especially at her lake home in Madison Lake, where she spent countless hours enjoying “porch time” with friends and family.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Gary of Madison Lake; sons, Chad (Andrea) of Mankato and Matthew (fiancée Shelby Dawson and daughter Quincy) of Holmen, WI; brothers, Bud (Betty) Braun of Lexington, KY, Barry (Shirley) Braun of Kasota, and Craig (Susanne) Braun of Portland, OR; brother-in-law, Troy (Melanie) Schmidt of Rochester, MN; sisters-in-law, Sheila (Russ) DeVos of Farmington, MN and Sheryl Redding of Mankato; step-sister, Joan Pfeffer of Ames, IA; step-brother, Ron Torgerson of Mankato; step-sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Torgerson of Forest City, IA; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Julia Braun; in-laws, Robert and Lavona Schmidt; step-father, Price Torgerson; brother, Scott; step-brother, Phil Torgerson; sister-in-law, Robyn Schmidt; step-brother-in-law, John Pfeffer; step-sister-in-law, Bonnie Torgerson.

She will be missed.
