Yvonne Marie Thomsen

Yvonne Marie Thomsen, age 87, of Mankato passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Yvonne was born on May 25, 1936, in Mankato, MN and attended school in Mankato. On May 25, 1956, she married Bernard (Bernie) Thomsen in Mankato where they lived until moving to Nicollet, MN in 2014. Following Bernie’s passing in 2018, Yvonne eventually moved to The Pillars Senior Living in Mankato where she made many new friends.

She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Moonlite League for 51 years. She served on various committees including serving as the Director of the Women’s Association from 1995-2003. In 2013 Yvonne was inducted into the Mankato Bowling Hall of Fame. She also volunteered at church and the VFW. She enjoyed part-time jobs at Kennedy Elementary and The Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic. Her greatest joy was watching her four grandsons as they played sports and participated in other activities. As proud grandparents, they rarely missed the chance to watch one of the boys perform or compete.

Yvonne is survived by her children, Terry (Liz) Thomsen, Dawn (Jeff) Cunningham, and Thomas (Jessie Lyons) Thomsen; grandson, Justin (Danielle) Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Collins and Lewis Cunningham; grandsons, Gavin (Jessica Crews), Ean, and Colton Thomsen and their mother, Angela Thomsen; siblings, Bonnie (Wayne) Gunsolus, Arnold (Kay) Marshall, Steven (Judy) Marshall, Diane (Gary) Sandstrom, Patty (Marty) Sandstrom, and Corinne (Bruce) Ort; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by husband, Bernie; her parents; and brother, Jack.
