Longtime Mankato resident, Rita Catherine Masberg, age 91, died Friday, May 12, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2023 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with burial following in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Calvary Cemetery, or to an organization of the donor’s choice. Rita was born January 21, 1932, in Mankato to Joseph Conrad and Bonifacia (Thissen) Masberg. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy in Mankato. Rita had lived in Colorado, California and returned to and retired in Mankato.
She enjoyed traveling, genealogy, art and reading, and was known for her bright smile and wonderful sense of humor. Rita was a third generation member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she devoted numerous hours to the history room. Rita’s grandfather, Joseph Masberg, a founder of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, was a stone carver by trade and Rita was very proud of the statues he carved in front of the church and elsewhere in the community.
Rita is survived by her brothers, William J. (Marlene) Masberg of New Prague and Charles W. (Kathy) Masberg of Apple Valley; sister-in-law, Judy Masberg of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and their families. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonita Huettl and her husband, Walter; two brothers, Joseph W. Masberg and his wife, Bernice, David Masberg; and a niece, Michelle Port.
